{"id":1131,"date":"2014-09-14T22:22:10","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T03:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ssaf.ca\/updates\/?p=1131"},"modified":"2022-09-17T14:18:53","modified_gmt":"2022-09-17T18:18:53","slug":"elementary-badminton-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssaf.ca\/updates\/elementary-badminton-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Elementary Badminton Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"566\">Technical Guidelines<\/p>\n<h1>Elementary Badminton<\/h1>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Revised April, 2018<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"566\">General Rules<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><b>TOURNAMENT INFORMATION and PLAYING REGULATIONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>CATEGORIES<\/i>:\u00a0 <\/b>Each school may enter two teams in each of the following events for each age division using the official team roster form (available on SSAF\u00a0 website)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Boys\u2019 Singles<\/li>\n<li>Boys\u2019 Doubles<\/li>\n<li>Girls\u2019 Singles<\/li>\n<li>Girls\u2019 Doubles<\/li>\n<li>Mixed Doubles<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Each student may play in only one event.<\/p>\n<p>Entry fee of $10.00 per student to be deducted from SSAF Account.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>TOURNAMENT FORMAT:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Tournament play will be double elimination.\u00a0 The governing rules will be NEW I.B.F. BADMINTON SCORING.\u00a0 Please familiarize your players with the official rules.\u00a0 Books are available from BADMINTON CANADA or go to the website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalbadminton.org\">www.internationalbadminton.org<\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>UNIFORM<\/i>: \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>(Please note that a player may be disqualified if the convenor deems attire is inappropriate or not conducive to play). <b>Uniform code will be strictly enforced.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please enforce that team players <b>only wear<\/b>:<\/p>\n<p><b>Official School Athletic Uniform<\/b> \u2013 All players must wear the same T-shirt with short sleeves (shoulders must be covered) and shorts, with name of school clearly marked.\u00a0 <b>No PANTS, HATS OR HEADGEAR<\/b> (except for religious or medical reasons, please inform convenor).\u00a0 Please have players remove all jewelry.\u00a0 No markings indicating clubs or badminton championships are permitted. Participant must wear uniform at all times.<\/p>\n<p><b>All participants must wear protective eyewear during matches.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i>FINALISTS:\u00a0 (FOR A FINAL DRAW OF 12 PLAYERS)<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Number of finalists for each venue for each age category is dependant upon the number of venues which is subject to number of participants.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>3 venues:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The top 4 places at each venue for each category will advance to the FINAL SSAF CHAMPIONSHIPS for a final draw of 12 players. The 5<sup>th <\/sup>and 6<sup>th<\/sup> place will be determined as an alternate player<b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>4 venues:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The top 3 places at each venue for each category will advance to the FINAL SSAF CHAMPIONSHIPS for a final draw of 12 players.\u00a0 The 4<sup>th<\/sup>, 5<sup>th<\/sup>, and 6<sup>th<\/sup> place will be determined for alternate players<\/p>\n<p><b><i>PROCEDURES AND RULES\u00a0 FOR MATCHES:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>All players will be assigned a number.\u00a0 Players will have 4 minutes to start play after their numbers are called.\u00a0 This will include warm-up time.\u00a0 A second call will be made after 2 minutes.\u00a0 Players failing to appear within 4 minutes may be forced to forfeit.<\/li>\n<li>When a player\u2019s number is called for a match, the player is asked to report to the scorer\u2019s table to pick up a game shuttle.\u00a0 If a new shuttle is required during the match, the old one must be turned in.\u00a0 When the match is finished, the <b>winner<\/b> must return the shuttle to the scorer\u2019s desk and report the score.<\/li>\n<li>Yellow shuttles will be available.<\/li>\n<li>The first service of the first game will be decided by a toss of the bird.\u00a0 In subsequent games, the first service shall be taken by the winner of the previous game.<\/li>\n<li>A match consists of the best two out of three games.<\/li>\n<li>The side that first scores 21 points shall win; the side winning a rally shall add 1 point to its score.<\/li>\n<li>When the score becomes 20-20, the side which scores 2 consecutive points shall win that game, if the score becomes 29-29, the side that scores the 30<sup>th<\/sup> point shall win that game.<\/li>\n<li>The side winning a game serves first in the next game.<\/li>\n<li>When one side reaches 11 points, both players may have a 60 second break but may not leave the court.\u00a0 No coaching at this time.<\/li>\n<li>Both sides get a 2 minute break between first and second games, and another 2 minute break between the second and third game. Players may not leave the court at this time. Coaches may speak to players on the court.<\/li>\n<li>Please note:\u00a0 For doubles matches, the rules are one service only, back service line remains and the current rule applies.<\/li>\n<li>Competitors are responsible for calling their own lines, keeping their own scores, etc.\u00a0 If a line call is in doubt, the player must call it in.\u00a0 No re-serves should take place.\u00a0 If a problem arises, players should confer with the convenor.\u00a0 The convenor may designate an umpire and\/or provide lines people for that match.<\/li>\n<li>Coaches and team members (spectators) are reminded that no coaching, including the calling of the lines, shall take place during the match.\u00a0 Coaching by the designated coach is allowed during the 2 minute break between games only and not at the 11-point rest period.<\/li>\n<li>Players may not leave the court during or in between games.<\/li>\n<li>Players and spectators must follow proper court etiquette, including proper attire.\u00a0 Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.\u00a0 (ie:\u00a0 loud, profane, abusive language, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc.)\u00a0 The player will risk disqualification.<\/li>\n<li>Substitutions may be made up until the first game of a player.\u00a0 If a player is injured and cannot resume play, the team will forfeit.\u00a0 For the second round, if a player scratches, he may not be replaced by another team mate; the next finalist will be eligible.<\/li>\n<li>There is to be no longer than a ten (10) minute rest between back-to-back matches.<\/li>\n<li>There will be no longer than one five (5) minutes of injury time for assessment per match.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u20264<\/p>\n<p><b><i>OTHER INFORMATION:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Please be aware that classes at TWS, TMSE and ARS are in session on these tournament days.\u00a0 Please be sure your students are well supervised while in the halls and cafeteria.
