Elementary Flag Football Results 2024

This year, we had more teams join – lucky 13 in all?! Thanks to the new times for joining: Waldorf Academy, RMS, Metro Prep, AMS, and CMS and Tall Pines adding in an elementary team.  It takes a few years to get a program running – joining and gaining experience is the first step.

The four round-robin games saw TPS in first as unbeaten, having taken down the reigning champions, Everest. Five teams emerged with only one loss: PACE, Everest, Northmount, Metro Prep, and Newton Grove. With only the top four going through to the semi- finals, somewhat controversially, PACE was knocked out due to losing a head-to-head against Northmount, and Newton Grove had the worst points against differential.

There were some noteworthy performances from the teams that did not make the play-offs.  Newton Grove had a very well-drilled team that played some great football.  PACE and TCPS get better every year.  CMS had a very young team that punched well above their size.  Rowntree was making some great improvements for their first time competing.  Waldorf was a very young team that never gave up.

Into the semi-finals, Metro Prep played against Everest.  Metro Prep were particularly impressive having only the bare minimum of 6 players.  In the round-robin games, I saw their quarterback run down the sidelines and get tripped.  He got up without a word of complaint and threw a TD pass the next play!  The potential movie-worthy story ended as they picked up an injury.  Everest had a good balance of throwing and catching – they also had a very impressive rush, which saw off Metro Prep.

The other semi-final saw Northmount face off against the impressive, unbeaten and very fast TPS, who had a very strong running game and sharp short passing game.   Northmount however, turned up their defence and had a portion of the bench praying the Hail Mary – which really helped their passing game – especially with them long bomb hail marys into the endzone…which kept working?!  Northmount’s quarterback had a golden arm and they had some sturdy receivers with excellent hands and they somehow overcame the very impressive TPS.

So, for the 3rd year in a row, Northmont faced off against Everest in the final.    Despite Northmount’s best effort, their last hail mary attempt at the end of the game was unsuccessful.  It was a close and thrilling game!  Congratulations to Everest “eats gold medals for breakfast” They do it again!!! Northmount will have to bring their rosary beads to ensure victory next year!

Thanks to Danny Bobb and the officiating team for helping the day run smoothly.  The referees noted how many close and thrilling games there were all day, which is a great indicator of a good day of football all around.

And that is flag football for one more year!  I hope to see you all out and about.
